Robert "Bob" David Dean, 75, of Piketon, Ohio passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 28, 2025. Bob was born on July 3, 1950, in Jasper, Ohio to the late Samuel and Grace Burns Dean.
Bob is survived by his two children David Dean of Piketon, Ohio and Melissa (William) Pennington of Minford, Ohio; six grandchildren: Jordyn (Daulton) Kenyon of Minford, Ohio, Emily (Dillon) Howell of Greenville, South Carolina, Abigail (Brandon) Craft of Minford, Ohio, Nathaniel Pennington of Minford, Ohio, Madison Dean of Piketon, Ohio, Whitney Dean of Piketon, Ohio; four great grandchildren: Noah, Riley and Benjamin Kenyon along with Evelyn Craft who is due to arrive on January 11, 2026; three sisters: Mary Ellen (Tommie) Graves of Pelzer, South Carolina, Betty (Tom) Kirkham of Kingston, Ohio, and Susan Johns of Pacifica, California; four nieces, one nephew, and numerous close friends. A special thanks to Roger Cooper for being such a great friend to our father and brother.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Grace Dean and one brother in law, Rich Johns.
Bob was a dirt track race car driver for many years and was the Stock Car Track Champion at Portsmouth Raceway Park in 1991 and 1992. He loved racing and the camaraderie of the track he enjoyed with his friends Rich and Jeff. Dad took pride in the way his race car would look and the last thing we would have to do before loading the car up for the track was to wash and wax it. When asked of the importance of having a clean car, Bob would say, "If we don't run good, we will at least look good"
Bob was also a former Newton Township Trustee and on his last day as trustee the area sustained a big snow storm. Bob spent the entire night plowing off the roads until 8 am when his term officially ended. When questioned why he was doing this he stated, "I made a promise when elected I would do the job the best I could". This dedication was reflected in everything else he did throughout his life.
Bob was an avid fisherman and loved to spend time with friends and family sitting around a lake or a pond. Dad was an excellent cook and entered many pie competitions and chili cook-offs. His pineapple upside down cake will truly be missed. Dad gave the impression of a hard exterior but was soft underneath, especially when it came to his great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank SOMC Hospice for the excellent care our father received during his illness. Special recognition to Jason, Ralphie, Alex and Julie.
Per Bob's request, there will not be a viewing or funeral. A private memorial service will be conducted with the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Bob's name to Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice.
