It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Randall "Randy" A. Gerwig, a beloved son, uncle, and treasured friend, who left us on January 8, 2026, at the age of 65. Randy, is a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, Ohio, was born on August 25, 1960, to Verner and Alice (Nee Branham) Gerwig.
Randy was known for his friendly demeanor and infectious sense of humor, always managing to bring a smile to the faces of those around him. His ability to make others feel comfortable and laugh was truly a gift, and he cherished every opportunity to share joy with friends and family alike.
A proud graduate of Minford High School, class of 1978, Randy had a passion for sports, especially his beloved Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State University athletics. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball in Portsmouth, where he imparted life lessons to young athletes and instilled in them a love for the game.
As a millwright with Columbus Local 1090, Randy dedicated himself to his work, showcasing the same commitment and diligence that he applied to every aspect of his life. But beyond his work ethic, it was his love for family that truly defined him. Randy adored his kids and grandkids, finding immense joy in family gatherings, sunny days, and outdoor adventures.
A true lover of classic rock, Randy could often be found reminiscing about past concerts or planning trips to fabulous Las Vegas, where he indulged in his fondness for gambling. He enjoyed watching movies, engaging with the world around him, and soaking up the sunshine-a perfect complement to his warm personality.
Randy was preceded in death by his father Verner Gerwig and brother Thomas Gerwig.
He is survived by his loving mother, Alice (Nee Branham) Gerwig, three sons, Matthew "Kory" (Sarah) Gerwig of Marysville, Coty Alan Gerwig and Quenten "Kyle" Gerwig both of Portsmouth,
one brother, James (Jill Rowles) Gerwig of Port Richey, FL and one sister, Wanda Gerwig of Portsmouth, one half sister, Sherry (Gary) Thompson-Haynes of Venice, FL, four grandchildren: Lawsyn, Piper, Finn and Reese Gerwig, and special friend, Sherri Frazier of Wheelersburg.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 15, 2026, 4:30-6:00 PM.
Service immediately following at 6:00 PM, all at FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662. We invite you to come and recollect the joyful moments, heartfelt laughter, and the beautiful memories that Randy brought into our lives.
Randall A. Gerwig will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
