It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael "Mike" Ward Mills, who left us peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on March 22, 1955, in Barstow, California, Mike was a loving husband, devoted family man, and a passionate lover of the great outdoors. He spent his final days in New Boston, Ohio, where his warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mike's lifelong journey was marked by his unwavering kindness and compassionate spirit. He lived a life filled with adventure and passion, devoting 24 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Sheri Mills. Together, they created countless cherished memories, filled with laughter, love, and the joys of simple moments spent in the great outdoors.
A proud member of the Lost Dutchman's Mining Association (LDMA) and the Gold Prospecting Association of America (GPAA), Mike found joy in gold prospecting-spending hours in pursuit of fine gold, exploring the beauty of nature. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, finding solace in the wilderness and delighting in the thrill of a good catch. For Mike, outdoor adventures were not just hobbies; they were opportunities to bond with family and friends, his true treasures in life.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson Ray and Ethel (Nee Marcum) Mills, one brother, Nelson Ray Mills, Jr., and one sister, Patricia Ann Kenedy.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sheri (Nee Thatcher) Mills, two sons: Michael Lee Mills, and Christopher (Summer) Porter, all of New Boston, and one daughter, Anne Marie (Ethan Bolt) Mills of Waverly.
Mike's gentle soul and generous spirit touched the lives of many. He will be remembered as a wonderful man whose kindness resonated deeply within the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His ability to empathize with others, combined with his genuine nature, made him a pillar of love and support for his family and friends.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his love, compassion, and the indelible mark he left on all of us. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he cherished and in the memories we hold dear.
Rest in peace, dear Mike. Your spirit will forever be in the mountains you loved, the rivers you fished, and the laughter shared with family.
