Obituary

Lewis "Lewie" Maynard
Oct. 29, 1931 - May 27 2026
West Portsmouth Resident
F. C. Daehler Mortuary Co.

Lewis Maynard, age 94, passed peacefully on May 27, 2026, at his home in West Portsmouth, Ohio.

Born on October 31, 1931, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Lewis was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, pastor, and friend. He early enlisted in the armed forces and upon completion of his commitment, moved on to a career as a firefighter with the Portsmouth Fire Department. Lewis served for many years as a firefighter and retired to pursue what he and his wife, Jerry, considered their life's work, serving the Lord as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They pastored in Ravencliff, West Virginia, at the Ravencliff Church of God of Prophecy for more than 20 years. Lewis and Jerry loved serving the Lord and His people and did so with joy and a laughter that was infectious.

After his retirement from pastoring, he returned to his childhood home of West Portsmouth. He survived the passing of his brothers and as the last man of the family, he took that responsibility seriously;finding his new calling of serving several of his aging sisters and nieces. He checked-in with his family to be sure they had what they needed, and he was always available to take them to a doctor's appointment, sit and visit, or pray with them.

Lewis is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends who love him. He shared an especially close bond with Laura Beth Adkins and Rebecca Kay Stevens. He enjoyed the daily calls from Laura Beth and the regular check-ins from Becky, whose kindness and company brought brightness to his days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jones Kennie Maynard and Myrtle Marie (Spradlin) Maynard, his loving wife, Arjayra (Jerry) Ann (Goodman) Maynard, five brothers, Rome Maynard, Robert Glenn Maynard, Claude (Buddy) Maynard, John Bruce Maynard, and Dahl Maynard, and four sisters, Dorothy Mae Maynard (Piatt), Gladys Helena Maynard (Wellman), Hallie Marie Maynard (Caldwell), and Jacqueline Maynard (Harwood).

The committal service was held on May 29, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Friendship Cemetery, 582 Edward Warren Dr. West Portsmouth, Ohio 45663. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SOMC Hospice Services, at 2201 25th St, Portsmouth, OH 45662, or at www.somc.org/services/hospice/, or to the New Boston Church of God of Prophecy, 3779 Grace Street, New Boston, OH 45662.

Lewis will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family thanks everyone for their support and condolences during this difficult time. For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth, Job 19:25, KJV
