Corporal Johnny "Joey" Ray Allen, 46, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, passed away on April 17, 2026, at Grant Hospital.
Johnny "Joey" proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps as an Aircraft Mechanic. During his service, he received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, Certificate of Commendation, and Meritorious Mast.
Johnny "Joey" was born on November 23, 1976, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Cindy Darby Royster and Johnny Ray Allen.
Before becoming ill, Joey was a Clinical Supervisor at Helping Hands Community Health. He dedicated his life to helping others, especially those struggling with addiction to alcohol and drugs. He was a steady source of encouragement to his coworkers, always ready to support them in their education, lift their spirits, or make them laugh with one of his crazy jokes.
If you knew Joey, you knew he was always there for anyone who needed him. He was the kind of person who gave freely of himself, and once you had him as a friend, you had a friend for life.
He is survived by his three daughters, Katie (Jacob) Allen of Florence, South Carolina, Elizabeth (Trey) Allen of Jacksonville, Florida, and Nikkie Allen of Wheelersburg, Ohio; his granddaughter, Maya Rae Tyndall of Florence, South Carolina; his sister, The Honorable Michelle (BJ) Hackman of Florence, South Carolina; his two stepsisters, Bethany Reed and Allison Brooks, both of Columbus, Ohio; his nephews, Colton (Aynsley) Hackman of Florence, South Carolina, and Jeremy Triggs, Jr. of South Webster, Ohio; his nieces, Alivia and Ally Triggs, both of South Webster, Ohio; his best friends, Jeremy Triggs, Deanna McCallister, Beth Crabtree, and Jackie Hall; and his fiancée, Ruthie Tackett.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Darby Royster; his stepfather, Philipp "Gary" Hobson; his father, Johnny R. Allen; and his stepmother, Vicki Allen.
Joey will be remembered for his service, his compassion, his humor, and the countless lives he touched.
A Gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00. Memorial Service with Military Honors from American Legion James Dickey Post #23 will be held immediately following at 6:00 PM, all at FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, OH.
