Joanne (Nee Payton) Winters, 91 years old, West Portsmouth resident, gained her wings on August, 14, 2023.

She was born on December 24, 1931 to her parents, Fred and June (Nee Spradlin) Payton in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Joanne was a graduate of Portsmouth West High School, attended Ohio University and Shawnee State University. She worked as a Manager of Credit and Collections as well as Ombudsman at Mercy Hospital for many years and later retired from SOMC.

She was a member of SOMC Service Guild, Down by the River Quilters Club, PALS, Over 55 Club of Nile Twp, and SOMC Volunteer. She was a member of Central Church of Christ, Portsmouth.

Joanne was an avid quilter, painter, cook and loved to travel and crochet. She also participated with the Golden Bears and loved being an Usher at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and June Payton, loving and devoted husband of 74 years, John Robert Winters, two brothers and one sister in law: Harry Payton, Carl and Shirley Payton.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Gayle and the Late William Bailey of West Portsmouth, Jonathon K. Winters of Troy, and Suzanne and Randy Kingery of West Portsmouth, six grandchildren: Mackenzie (Casey) Jones of Jacksonville, FLA, Christopher R. Winters of Columbus, Olivia A. Winters of Denton, TX, Kirby Kingery of Portsmouth, Alexandra Winters of Troy, Ariel Winters of Troy, four great grandchildren, one sister and brother in law, Constance and Steve Compton of West Portsmouth, two brothers, Gary E. Payton, of Peebles and Fred Payton of Portsmouth, and one sister in law, Ruthann Payton of Georgetown, KY.

Joanne will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
