George Dennis Copen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 25, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on September 24, 1939, in Portsmouth, Ohio. George was raised by loving parents, Floyd and Alice Copen, who instilled in him the values of glorifying God in action & service.

He was predeceased by his wife, Amelia "Pinkie" Copen, his parents, and his granddaughter, Grace Spears.

George and Pinkie's love story began in high school, leading to marriage on December 28, 1958, that lasted until Pinkie's passing in 2015. An alumnus of Clay High School's class of 1957, George furthered his education at the University of Cincinnati, earning a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering began at IBM in Fishkill, NY continued into retirement at the Uranium Enrichment Plant in Piketon, Ohio. George's life was enriched by his deep involvement with Temple Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Teacher, and youth leader. His passion for history and Bible archeology, coupled with his love for teaching, left a lasting impact on the many lives he touched. George's generosity and quiet acts of kindness and support helped countless individuals, reflecting his faith in action. He was a lifelong learner with a voracious appetite for literature, particularly History and Science Fiction/Fantasy. George found joy in nature, whether tending to his garden, playing sports, or simply listening to the rain on a tin roof. His favorite retreats included the serene beaches of North Carolina and the majestic mountains of Tennessee.

George survived by his children: Kimberly Copen-Spears (Randy) of Columbus, OH, Bradly Copen of Columbus, OH, and Blair Copen (Joy) of Lucasville, OH; his six grandchildren; and his younger sister, "Princess" Susie Horr, of Waverly, OH, and his nephews.

In honor of George's memory, the family suggests donations be made to Temple Baptist Church's Mission's Fund.

A celebration of George's life will be held at Temple Baptist Church 1148 Gallia Street on Saturday October 3rd at 12 p.m. The family invites all who knew him to attend and share their favorite memories.
