Frederick Athol Mershon, age 57, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025. Born on February 2, 1968, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Fred was a beloved son, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many throughout his journey.
A dedicated mason by trade, Fred spent many years honing his craft in the construction industry. His significant contributions to the community extended beyond Ohio; for twelve years, he thrived in Waco, Texas, where he proudly helped build Baylor University, leaving a lasting legacy in his work. In his younger years, he worked for notable companies such as Bob & Floyd's in Portsmouth and Mills Pride.
Fred was known for his warm heart and vibrant spirit. He had a passion for country music, often lifting the spirits of those around him with his singing and dancing. Fred never met a stranger; his kindness and infectious laughter drew people to him. He loved to tell jokes, bringing smiles and laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In addition to his jovial demeanor, he found joy in the tranquility of fishing.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Richard and Mary Frances (Nee Huff) Mershon, and two brothers, Gerald "Dee" and Raymond Mershon.
He is survived by, five brothers: Richard (Laura) Mershon of West Portsmouth, Steven Mershon of Waco, TX, Timothy (Teresa) Mershon of Obetz, OH, Dale (Vickie) Mershon of FL, Roger Mershon of West Portsmouth; two sisters, Rose (The Late Gary) McCoy of West Portsmouth, and Karen (Mike) Watkins of Grove City, and too many family and friends to mention.
