Emma Lou (Wheeler) Tracy 74, passed away on June 11, 2024 at Hillview Retirement Center.


A lifelong resident of Scioto County, Emma Lou was a graduate of Portsmouth High School (1968) and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing (1972). Known by her friends and colleagues as "Tracy," she served the community for 43 years as a nurse in the Emergency Department at Mercy Hospital and then Southern Ohio Medical Center after the merger.


Emma Lou is survived by her son Larry (Deborah) Tracy of Granger, IN, and 3 adult grandchildren, Christopher, Madison and Isabel Tracy, and a sister, Tana Lee Jones of Virginia Beach, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard O. Wheeler and Welly Ruth (Simpson) Wheeler, her brother, Howard O. Wheeler, Jr. and sister, Alice A. (Wheeler) Potts.


She had a lifelong passion for sewing, specializing in quilts. She shared her gift with many family and friends throughout the years.


She asked to share her deep appreciation for the legion of medical professionals who provided expert and compassionate care as she navigated the last years of her life. A special thanks to the staff of Hillview Retirement Center and SOMC Hospice.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Benevolent Care Fund at Hillview or the Hospice Caritas Fund at SOMC.
