David D. Lewis, 82 years old passed away Friday, March 3, 2023 at Medical City Dallas Hospital, Dallas, Texas. David was born on July 2nd, 1940 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Ernest and Bethel Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many friends and loved ones.

 

David was a 1958 graduate of Portsmouth High School. He graduated from Cedarville College, then went on to receive his masters degree from University of Cincinnati.

 

David dedicated 42 years of his life as an educator. He started his career as a high school counselor, taught history, and coached high school basketball. He was then a principal in the Mason City School District, retiring as the superintendent. The road he traveled was to see that children received the finest education with the best of teachers.

 

Throughout his career he met many people who enriched his life and became friends.

 

David was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Portsmouth in his youth. As he moved around he was fortunate to attend many other churches.

 

David will be greatly missed by his dear wife, Julia (Hicks) Lewis, son Eric Lewis, daughter-in-law Joy, and two grandchildren he cherished, Tyler and Hannah, all from Troy, Ohio, one sister Carolyn Snively, one brother Mark (Teresa) Lewis, from Portsmouth, Ohio and a special sister-in-law Janice Huffstuther of Dallas, Texas. He will be dearly missed by family and many friends, especially his best friend Howard Day.

 

A Celebration of David's life will be held in Portsmouth at a later date.
