David L. Hazelbaker, a resident of Portsmouth, Ohio, was born on November 5, 1946, and passed away on December 25, 2025, at the age of 79. A proud veteran, David served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, dedicating 20 years of his life to military service.
David was a mechanic, applying his craft with pride within the military sector. After retiring from his military career, he continued to find joy in activities that included riding his motorcycle, fishing, and enjoying the soothing sounds of country and bluegrass music. He held a special affection for Oak Island off the East Coast.
A longtime member of the American Legion Post 23, David's reflecting the values of camaraderie and service.
David is survived by his beloved son and daughter in law, Michael and Ethel Hazelbaker of Blanchester, one sister Linda Johnson of Hopkinsville, KY, two grandchildren, Jaraka Hazelbaker and Corinne DeWolfe, and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Hazelbaker and Deloris (Nee Blackburn) Hazelbaker Risner, his loving wife of forty-four years when she passed in 2012, Suzanne (Nee Davis) Hazelbaker, and one sister Katherine "Kay" Hazelbaker.
Graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8580 Gallia Pike, Franklin Furnace, OH, American Legion, James Dickey Post#23 will be performing honors.
