Betty Jean Light, 85, of Portsmouth, died Friday, May 19, 2023, at the SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by her family. She was born November 17, 1937, to the late Leslee Redman and Nellie (Johnson) Redman.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Light, three sons: Thomas, Anthony, and Michael, a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Morris Beckett, a sister Maralee Crisp, brother-in-law Robert Brown, and grandson, Jeremy Madden.
Betty attended Cornerstone Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Ohio, where she sang in the choir. She also sang with several area community choirs. Betty loved reading, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. She was fun-loving and always loved a good joke. Betty loved traveling and going to the beach. She loved helping others and would often volunteer wherever she was needed.
She is survived by a son: David (Penny) Light of Hilliard, Ohio, three daughters: Davena (Mike) Pennington of Piketon, Ohio, Tamala Coburn of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Teresa (Steve) Timberlake of Wheelersburg, Ohio, 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandsons, 1 great great granddaughter, a sister-in-law, Laneda Brown, brother-in-law Terry Crisp, several nieces and nephews, and several friends whom she loved dearly and were like sisters to her.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for July 1, 2023, at 1pm, at the Forest Heights Community Building in Portsmouth.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Betty's name to SOMC Hospice at 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
